Thank you all for your tremendous efforts at the Rock Challenge performance. We received so many compliments about the Aid theme and the importance of making a difference as a “united” effort. Many of you recognised several of the judges who've visited the school to talk to you about the importance of healthy lifestyles and so many of the evening's messages are embedded in our schools’ curriculum.
We were so proud of everyone. The children showed resilience and team work ...right up until the curtain call! We have received some lovely letters from staff and families who have sent in cards to show their appreciation. These were read out and celebrated with the children today. Thank you for all your kind comments on the evening, all the Year 4 and 5 staff worked hard behind the scenes including our work placement students.
Four children were selected to speak on the stage and they showed how important it is to speak your own mind and from your heart. They didn't read from a script and their views came across as genuine thoughts and ideas.
All the children worked together as a team designing their dance moves, the props and scenery. They printed their t-shirts, made their masks and head dresses and painted their own props. They pulled it together on a shoestring budget which held the value of teamwork at its heart.
Everything about the performance was the combination of all their contributions. The staff guided them when they needed help but this was all about children directing and making choices and that makes us proud.
What struck us on the night was that our school had put forward everyone for this opportunity. There were no auditions- every one of our children had the choice to participate whether they attended a dance/ballet club outside school or not. We had far more boys participating than any other school- Go Springwood!
