RE Intent
At Springwood Federation, our intent is to introduce pupils to a broad range of religious and non-religious worldviews, enabling them to build on their own experiences and develop a deep understanding of the value and significance of living either a religious or non-religious life. We aim to nurture respect, empathy, and critical thinking about beliefs and values, supporting pupils to become thoughtful and informed citizens.
Following the Living Difference syllabus, our curriculum encourages pupils to explore concepts of identity, community, morality, and spirituality, fostering their ability to reflect on their own beliefs and those of others. We had a glowing SACRE visit in September 2024.
In England, parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from religious education (RE) in state-funded schools, either in part or in full. Parents can withdraw their child without giving a reason.
RE Implementation
We implement RE through:
- A carefully sequenced long-term plan based on the Living Difference syllabus, covering Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Humanism, and other world views.
- Medium-term plans that focus on key concepts and themes, supporting pupils to enquire, contextualise, evaluate, and communicate about religious and non-religious perspectives.
- Use of a range of teaching resources including stories, artefacts, visits, and visitors to bring learning to life.
- Opportunities for pupils to develop skills in respectful dialogue, critical reflection, and ethical reasoning.
- Differentiated teaching and support to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND pupils.
- Assessment through a structured framework that captures pupils’ knowledge, understanding, and skills development.
- Engagement with the wider community and regular monitoring to ensure curriculum quality and relevance.

RE Impact
As a result of our intent and implementation:
- Pupils demonstrate knowledge and understanding of diverse religious and non-religious worldviews.
- They develop respect for different beliefs and the ability to engage thoughtfully with others.
- Pupils reflect on their own values and beliefs with increasing maturity.
- Attainment and progress in RE meet or exceed expectations, with pupils able to communicate effectively about complex ideas.
- The curriculum supports pupils’ personal development and prepares them to participate positively in a diverse society.
- Governors and leaders rigorously monitor curriculum delivery and outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Parents are informed of their rights regarding RE and the inclusive approach of the school.
