At Springwood Junior School, we understand that talking about sensitive subjects can sometimes be challenging for both parents and children. We are committed to supporting families in these conversations in a way that respects our core values: staying safe, treating each other as you wish to be treated, trying your best, and being proud.
We aim to create a safe and respectful environment where children feel supported as they learn about important personal and social topics. We tailor our approach to meet the diverse needs of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring that every child can access and understand these important conversations.
How You Can Support Your Child at Home
Start with openness: Encourage your child to ask questions and share their feelings.
Use age-appropriate language: Tailor conversations to your child’s understanding and maturity.
Use resources: Books, websites, and videos can be helpful tools to explain sensitive topics.
Be patient and listen: Children may need time to process information and revisit conversations.
Support Available at School
If you need guidance or support, please contact either your child’s class teacher or our SENDCo team – Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Hescott-Lawrence. We can offer support and advice on how to approach sensitive subjects, especially for children with additional needs. We also work closely with external agencies to ensure comprehensive support.

Confidentiality and Safeguarding
