    Summer 1 term

In Computing children have been learning all about digital imagery, exploring how to use editing software to edit a photo. They used Sketchpad to explore changing a photo's colour and also adding clipart props to an image.

In Art children have looked at the artist Natalie Blake and used her work to inspire them to make clay tiles of their own to remember the Titanic. The children used different types of lines and joining techniques to make their clay tiles.

In Maths children have been developing their knowledge of number and place value, now learning to represent and compare numbers from 50-100. We have also been building on our prior knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help us to learn our number bonds to 20.

Towards the end of the Summer 1 term we loved celebrating Cultural Diversity day across the school. In Year 1 we were learning about the culture of Norway. The children enjoyed learning about the culture of Norway, listening to some traditional Norwegian stories, doing some Norwegian circle dancing and making an art collage of the Norwegian flag.

    Spring term

Our Year 1 children have been busy exploring a wide range of exciting learning opportunities this term!

In Design and Technology, the children have been learning about the importance of a healthy diet, focusing on eating five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. They applied this knowledge by designing and making their own fruit salads for a chosen user within their class. The children demonstrated great care and creativity, thinking about preferences, presentation and healthy choices.

We also had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day, with children coming to school dressed up. The children learnt about two inspirational people: Ada Lovelace and Mother Teresa. They explored how these individuals made a difference to the world and discussed the qualities that made them so special, helping the children to reflect on how they too can have a positive impact.

In Computing, the children have been developing their computing skills through Bee-Bots, learning to create clear instructions and understand simple programming commands. They explored sequencing by directing Bee-Bots to move and turn, before applying their knowledge to program them through their own mazes.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by the children in their learning!
