In Year 1, we value the importance of learning together, both at school and at home. Each half term, children will be invited to complete a family creative project, providing a fun opportunity to explore their learning, get creative and share their wonderful ideas. We encourage families to enjoy these projects together! Remember little and often is the best way to support your child.

    Oxford Owl

Reading regularly at home plays an important role in developing your child's confidence and love of reading. We recommend reading at least four times a week using Oxford Owl, where children can access books carefully matched to their phonics knowledge.

Re-reading familiar books helps children develop their fluency, accuracy and confidence, allowing them to become increasingly independent readers. Every little bit of reading makes a big difference!

    Weekly Spelling Quizzes

We will have a short spelling quiz each Friday. These will include Harder to Read and Spell Words and words containing sounds we have been learning in school. You can find these below to practise at home, along with our focus sounds from the previous week. We will also include a mystery word from a previous quiz to help us revisit our learning!

Please remember, these quizzes are completely pressure-free. We do not expect children to get every word correct and there is no need to worry about scores. All words will have been taught in school, and the quizzes are simply another opportunity to practise and celebrate progress.

We will keep them positive and enjoyable, praising effort and achievement. Little and often is plenty, home should be short and enjoyable!

Spellings for each half term can be found on the home learning sheet.
