Drop-off: 8:30 AM - 8:45 AM
Pick-up: 3:15 PM
Children are offered a fruit snack in the morning. We also provide a 'top-up breakfast' as a soft start for children in the mornings.
If someone we have not previously met is collecting your child (e.g an aunt, or grandparent, etc) please inform the team in advance. Kindly provide the relevant details, such as the designated password. For safeguarding reasons, we are unable to release a child to anyone not known to us without parental permission.
Phonics is a key part of our learning in Year 1. We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) programme, building on the foundations developed in Reception. Throughout the year, children will explore alternative sounds and spellings, develop their blending skills and grow in confidence as readers and writers.
Reading at home plays a vital role in your child's progress. Children have access to reading books on Oxford Owl, carefully matched to their phonics knowledge. We encourage families to read together at least four times a week using Oxford Owl. Re-reading familiar books helps children develop fluency, confidence and a lifelong love of reading.
In the Summer term, children will complete the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, a short, supportive assessment of their phonics knowledge.

Library Days: Fridays
Children will have the opportunity to borrow a book from our school library on Mondays. To ensure that they can select a new book, we kindly ask that they bring their previously borrowed book back to school.

We will have a short spelling quiz each Friday. These will include Harder to Read and Spell Words and words containing sounds we have been learning in school. You can find these below to practise at home, along with our focus sounds from the previous week. We will also include a mystery word from a previous quiz to help us revisit our learning! Please remember, these quizzes are completely pressure-free. We do not expect children to get every word correct and there is no need to worry about scores. All words will have been taught in school, and the quizzes are simply another opportunity to practise and celebrate progress. We will keep them positive and enjoyable, praising effort and achievement. Little and often is plenty, home should be short and enjoyable! Note the spelling quiz timetable can be found on the home learning page. Lunch Boxes. We aim to promote healthy eating habits within Year 1. While we encourage a balanced lunch, we politely ask that crisps and chocolate be kept to a minimum in lunch boxes. Additionally, please note that we are a nut-free school, and we have children with severe nut allergies. For the safety of all, please ensure that lunch boxes do not contain any nut-based products. WaterbottlesPlease ensure your child brings a clearly named water bottle to school each day, containing water only. This helps us encourage healthy drinking habits and ensures children stay hydrated throughout the school day. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own water bottles, including looking after them and remembering to take them home each day. If you wish to provide juice, this can be brought in separately to enjoy at lunchtime. ArborImportant messages and letters are also sent via Arbor.
